Denny Irish Surf Team- Day 2 Eurosurf 09, Jersey

The Open surfers commenced competition at Eurosurf '09 taking place in Jersey this week. Liam Joyce was first of the Irish in heat 3. He finished 2nd progressing to the next round as did Ollie O'Flaherty in heat 6. Owen Murphy and Hugh Galloway finished 3rd in heat 12 and 13 respectively but the double elimination format allows them another opportunity to progress. Later in the day Damien Conway and Ronan Oertzen progressed from heats 19 and 22 to move into the second round.

Denny Irish Surf Team- Day 3 Eurosurf 09, Jersey

As expected Nicole Morgan progressed from round 1 of the womens with ease, finishing a close 2nd to Joana Rocha from Portugal. Tahlia Britton finished 3rd, she will now move to  repecharge round one where she will have a second opportunity to progress.

Longboarders, Emmet O'Doherty and new cap, Stephen Kelleher finished 3rd in their heats so both move to the repecharge round 1.

Ireland's senior surfer (over 27), John Mc Carthy was on form finishing 2nd in his heat to move to round 2.

In the Open Division, Owen Murphy and Hugh Galloway were drawn in the same heat in Rep 1. Owen went on to win the heat but unfortuately Hugh finished 3rd eliminating him from the event. 

The event then took a dramatic turn, due to the poor surf forecast the Repecharge contest was scrapped, surfers knocked into Rep 1 were given the oportunity to progress from that round back in to the main event and form there it was sudden dead. Unfortunately the change in format unset the Irish open performaces with Liam finishing 3rd and Ollie, Ronan, Owen and Damien finishing 4th.

Denny Irish Surf Team- Day 4 Eurosurf 09, Jersey

In the Masters (over 35), Stevie Burns progressed to Round 2 with a 2nd place finish in his heat. In the Open bodyboard Shane Meehan got off to a rocky start finishing 3rd but redeemed himself in Rep 1 when he finished 1st with the second highest heat score, a 12.76 in the bodyboard event so far. Seamus Mc Goldrick progressed through Round 1 with a 2nd place finish. Shane and Seamus are now waiting to surf their Round 2 heats. Ashliegh Smith progressed though Round 1 but finished 3rd in her round 2 heat and now has to surf Rep 1 to return to the main contest.

Emmet O'Doherty and Stephen Kelleher successfully progressed through their rep 1 heats but missed out on qualification in the next round.
