New ISA Coaching & Lifesaving Dates announced
A Level 1 Surf Instructor Course will be held in Ballyshannon on the 6/7 June. The Level 1 Surf Instructor Course qualifies the participant to instructor novice surfers. The course costs €200. To secure booking please complete the booking form and return to the Irish Surfing Association with the appropriate course fee. Please note places are limited to 16.
Level 1 Surf Instructor Applicants-
must be over 18 years old
must hold a current Beach Lifeguard Certificate (RLSS or IWA) or Surf Instructor Beach Award
must be capable of paddling out back in a reasonable time in conditions up to 6ft, taking off on an unbroken wave and surfing right and left along unbroken waves.
must have completed the ISC 4hr Code of Ethics & Awareness Workshop (this is incorporated into the Beach Safety Award).
A Surf Instructor Beach Safety Award will be held in Ballyshannon from the 8th to the 12th June. This course is a water safety award for surf instructors, it is an alternative for surf intructors to the beach lifeguard award which is required to complete the Level 1 Surf Instructor qualification and will incorporate the ISC 4hr Code of Ethics & Awareness Workshop. The course costs €250. To secure booking please complete the booking form and return to the Irish Surfing Association with the appropriate course fee. Please note places are limited to 16.
To attend the Surf Instructor Beach Safety Award a reasonable level of swim fitness is required. Participants will be expected to complete a 400m pool swim in under 10 minutes along with various sea swims and rescues. Candidates will require swimsuit, googles, fins and swim hat.
